HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. BY TELEOUAPH—I'IIESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, January 27. The High Commissioner cables from London under date January 25th as follows :—The mutton market is quiet. Stocks of New Zealand mutton on hand are light, and prices have beer, maintained. The current ■quotations are—Canterbury 3|d, North Island 3ftd, . Australian 21d, River Plate 3d. The lamb market is steady, and fair business is doing. Stocks of Australian lamb on hand are heavy and wifely distributed amongst agents, •wj»""are pushing sales. Australian Jamb ia being quoted at 4Jd. New .Zealand lamb shipped by s.s. "Mamari," averaged 6d. The beef market is quiet but steady. Hindquarters are quoted at ■3H and forequarterj 2sd. "The butter market is very firm, and is greatly affected by the hot weather and bush fires. There is a general and active .demand, and prospects are favourable. Tjbe choicest 2tew Zealand is quoted a$ 1195,, Apstralian 117s, Argentine 117s, Danish 1255, Siberian 112s. The cheese market is a shade weaker, and there is less demand for New Zealand makes. White makes, are quoted at 61s 6d, coloured 62s 6d percwt. * ~..«. The hemp market is quiet, with small business doing, and the market is l |B?ely to remain for some time at present quotations. There is no speculation at present. The current quotations are—Good fajr grade on the spot £2B, fair grader on the spot £27, fair current Manila on spot £29 10 J , January-March shipment, good fair grade £2B, fair grade £27, fair current Manila £29. The stock held on January Ist amounted, to 731 tons. There is no alteration in the cocksfoot seed market since last week. The wool market is steady, with fair business doing.
