ASIATIC REGISTRATION ACT. GOVERNMENT WILL RECONSIDER -WHOLE MATTER. Received January 28, 12.1 a.m. LONDON, January 27. The "Daily Telegraph's" Johannesburg correspondent states that the Government, realising the seriousness of the situation, has decided to completely reconsider their whole attitude towards Asiatics, and will appoint a Supreme Court Judge to examine the objections to the Registration Act, with a view to making the system of identification effective without offending. This is presumably on the lines successfully followed by Lord Milner in 1903. The law will be amended next session. The Act meanwhile is in.abeyance. It is presumed that the Government has been assured of the Opposition's strong support in carrying out this courageous decision.
