The Papanui's Passengers.
WELLINGTON, January 20. The Papanui, which arrived this morning from London, via ports, brought some 160 passengers in the third-class, including 27 to whom assisted passages had been granted. The latter includes five farmers, three farm labourers, five domestics (none of whom are booked for Wellington), and the remainder are married women who have corns out to join their husbands. The capital possessed by the assisted pa sengers averaged £SO each. Mr A. O. S. Darby, the immigration officer, was early on the scene attending to the new arrivals and tendering, them advice. He states that the health of the passengers is very good, and only one was detained for further examination. He is not likely to cause any trouble, as he possesses a return ticket. Three other passengers whom the health officer requested to strip for a minute examination were allowed- to proceed. "The general standard of the new arrivals," said Mr Darby, "is, if anything, above the Usual arrivals, and indeed the standard keeps steadr ily improving."
