MASTERTON A. AND P. SHOW.
THE REVISED PROGRAMME,
The revised programme of the Masterton A. and P. Show on February 18th and 19th has been circulated and a glance through its contents make it evident that the Association has spared no effort to cater for all classes of the farming community and make the show even a greater success than its predecessors. In every section substantial prize money is prol vided, and many valuable trophies are ; offered for competition.' ! In the sheep division the Wolsley Sheep-shearing Machine Company, Ltd., offer a silver cup valued at 12gns for most points scored in English Leicesters; and in Southdowns there is Mr J. Stuckey's special prize of £lO for the best Southdown ram under 21 months. This latter prize has to be won three times, not necessarily in succession, before it becomes the property of the winner. It has already been won twice by-Mrs It. H. Slack, of Palmerston North. Keen competition is assured in this section. In farmers' classes, Messrs Thomas and Cook, of London, offer a silver bowl valued at lOgns for most points in classes 222 A and 2228 —two long wool cross ewes under and two over 21 months. It is expected that every owner of first-class crossbred sheep around the district will compete in these classes. Another silver bowl, valued at 15gns, presented by Messrs J. Fison and Company, Ltd., England, is offered in the sheep for freezing classes. There are classes for every breed of cattle, and in past years this has been a particularly strong section of the show. The fat cattle classes should fill well, and induce big competition, as there is a special trophy valued at 20gns, presented by the Dixon Investment Company, for most prints in this section. In the saddle horse section ladies are well catered for, no less than five classes being set aside for them. Special prizes are a prominent feature among these classes also. Boys 1 and girls are not neglected in the riding sections, as they have seven classes to themselves. Competitions, always a strong feature of the local Show, promise to be particularly so this year. In addition to the ordinary jumping and driving events there will be the competitions for the Buick Memorial Challenge Cup, valued at 20gns, on the first day, and the champion jumping competition, for which the first prize is £25; on the second day. The mounted infantry and the leading and jumping competitions have been reinstated in the programme as four sections of mounted rifles from Palmerston North and Feilding will be competing. The classes in dogs have been increased. The same remarks apply to the produce and industrial section, which has always been an attractive feature of the gathering. The committee are doing their utmost to bring the show into line with the exhibitions held in the larger centres, and in this they have the support of the whole district. It is confidently anticipated that the entries this year which close on February Ist, will establish a fresh record in the history of the Association.
