LAWN TENNIS.
MASTERTON CLUB. The committee have decided to close the Masterton Lawn Tennis Club's courts until the Tournament, commencing there on Wednesday morning next. On Thursday and Friday evenings the local Fire Brigade held wet practices on the grounds,.and, with the subsequent rollings which the courts have undergone, they should be in good order for the championship meeting. Over one hundred entries have been received for the respective events, and, given good weather, the Tournament prove one of the most successful yet held under the auspices of the local Club. The handicapping committee meet this evening for the purpose of allotting the handicaps and drawing the players in the respective events. Late entries will be received by the secretary, on the grounds, up till 5 o'clock this afternoon. Miss L Powdrell and Mr H. A. Parker have each promised trophies, of the value of two guineas, for competition at this meeting.
