A "THIN" PRETEXT. GERMAN METHODS. Received January 16, 8.52 a.m. MASSOWAH, January 15. Under the pretext that he was connected with a band of German noblemen visiting Abyssinia to shoot lions, Arnol Hold, representing German manufacturers and banks, asked King Menelik for a concession to establish a bank at Addis Abeba; also a spirit monopoly, and the right to run a motor service between Jibutil and Addis sAbeba. He promised Menelik 10 per cent, of the spirit monopoly.
