SWIMMING.

WAIRARAPA CLUB'S EVENT.S The first of the series of events to be decided among the members of the Wairarapa Amateur Swimming Club for Mr D. Caaelberg's trophy took place on the Park Lake last evening. The event was the 50yds handicap. There was a good number of swimmers present, and considerable interest was taken in the races by tho large gathering of spectators, who lined the left bank of the lake. Each of the heats was keenly contested. The detailed results were ad follow: First Heat.—Phillips (lOsec) 1, Ball (ssec) 2. Duggan (ssec) and McKenzie l.lOsoc) also started. Won easily. Time, Msec. Second Heat —Winchester (lOsec) 1, Wacklington (lOsec) 2. Shuttlework (lOsec), Kelly (Bsec), McLean (ssec) Tanner (oserj also started. Time, 34 2-sth sec. Third Heat. Darvill (osec) 1, Sim (ssec) 2. Mason (lOsec), Baker (lOsec), Wilson (Ssec), Eddie (ssec) also started. Baker finished first, but was disqualified for starting before his time. Time, 34 Lsth sec. FINAL HEAT. Phillips (lOsec) ... 1 Waddington (lOsec) ... 2 Darvill (Ssec) ... 3 Winchester (lOsec), Ball (ssec) and Sim (sscc) also started. A splendid race. Time, 34 2-sth sec. This evening the 100 yds handicap will be decided, the first heat commencing at 6.30 o'clock: Competitors are requested to wear trunks over their costumes. The follow ine are this evening's heats and the handicaps:— First Heat.- -Tanner Bsec, McKenzie Ssec, McLean 7sec, Shuttlework 6sec, Ball Ssec, Waddington 3sec. Sactfnd Heat.—Mason Ssec, Eddy Bsec, KeHy Ssec, Sim ssec, Darvill lsec. Third Heat.--Wilson Ssec, Cole Ssec, Duggan 7sec, Winchester ssec, Baker 4sec, Phillips scratch.
