THE DEUCE CASE.
CALDWELL IMPROVING IN HEALTH. Received January 13, 8.44 a.m. . NEW YORK, January 12. Robert Caldwell, the American witness in the Druce perjury case, who has been arrested for perjury, is improving. Extradition proceedings have been adjourned f r a fortnight, when Caldwell hopes to be able to attend.

MR TAFT'S CHANCES. Received January 13, 10.21 p.m. NEW YORK, January 13. President Roosevelt calculates that the Republican Convention will give Mr W. H. Taft 600 votes, ensuring combination at the first ballot.
