AFFAIRS IN ABYSSINIA.
VIOLATION OP THE STATUS QUO. KING MENELIK EXPRESSES REGRET. Received January 13, 9.45 p.m. MASSOWAH, January 13. King Menelilc was astonished and grieved on learning from the Italian Charge d'Affairs at Addisabelia, of the violation of the status quo at Lugh, and expressed his deepest regret. He renewed his professions of friendship with Italy, He laid the who'e responsibility on the rebellious Ambara chiefs and promises to recall any Abyssinians remaining in Lugh and Benadta Hinterland and mete out exemplary punishment to the guilty. He will indemnify the sufferers. (Anxiety is felt in Italy at the critical condition of the garrison in the Lugh district of Somaliland, recently raided by Abyssinians. The garrison is stationed two hundred miles from the coast. The cruisers Caprera and A'-ethusa have been ordered to the Benadir coa3t).
