The thermometer on several occasions registered 100 deg. in the shade and 130 deg. in the sun. The crops are ripening before their time. The grass is dried up, but the turnip crops are good.Water is running short in Alexandra for domestic purposes. The Borough Council recently bought the right to two heads from Butchers' Gu'.ly, and residents'want the Government to grant a loan of £BOO to. bring the water from there into town. • Mining -is at a standstill for the want of water. GORE, January 10. Very hot weather continues in this district and at present there is a mild drought. The crops are suffering from the scarcity of moisture, and the grass is also shrivelling up. A number of dredges have had to close down owing to the scarcity of water.
