CHILDREN DRINK WHrSKY. ONE DIED. Received January 8, 10.38 a.m. ADELAIDE, January 8. Two children at Grakalila, aged nine and six years respectively, found a bottle of whisky, and drank the contents. The eldest died; the other is recovering.
HUMAN REMAINS. TWENTY THOUSAND YEARS OLD. A GEOLOGIST'S DISCOVERY. Received January 8, 10.38 a.m. PORT DARWIN, January 8. News from Sumatra, Malay Archi - pelago, states that Dr. Elbert, the German geologist, who has been conducting researches in South Sumatra, reports that the story of the discovery by him of an ape man is false. He Iras found human remains, which he estimates are twenty thousand years old. They are human, not simian, and his discovtries are directly opposed to the Darwinian theory. '
A SOUTH AUSTRALIAN MURDER. BODY IN A SHAFT. THREE MEN ARRESTED. Received January 8, 10.38 a.m. ADELAIDE, January 8. A blacksmith named Clinton, at Day Dawn, was set upon .by three men and shot dead. The body was thrown into a mining shaft. Three men Potter, Smith and Bloomer —have been arrested. NEWCASTLE MINERS' STRIKE. FINDING OF THE SPECIAL COURT. TERALBA MINERS ADVISED " TO RESUME WORK. Received January 8, 9.38 p.m. SYDNEY, January 8. The Special Court found that the men in the Teralba mines had by leaving work broken the agreement under which the Special Court'was constituted, and thereby justified the proprietors in withdrawing from the Court if they so desired. Mr Bowling, the miners' representative in the Court, considered that the men might have committed a technical breach, but. morally they had the right to leave work. The proprietors' representative announced that the proprietors desired to abide by the agreement if the Teralba men would return to work and let the matter come before the Court. The proprietors would not withdraw from the Court. On the application- of the miners' advocate the Court adjourned till to-morrow to allow the Miners' Federation an opportunity to advise the strikers to resume work. The miners' committee of management subsequently met'and advised the men to resume work.
