PRISONER'S WIFE TO BE CALLED. Received January 7, 7.29 a.m. NEW YORK, January 6. The defence in the Thaw trial will call prisoner's wife and many new witnesses, including Anthony Cornstock, the anti-vice crusader, who is expected to reveal that Thaw made efforts to expose White's alleged misdoings before Thaw shot him. The defence hopes to prove that Thaw was insane at the time of the tragedy, but that he has now reco7ered. PLEA OF NOT GUILTY WITHDRAWN. INSANITY SUBSTITUTED. Received January 7, 10.10 p.m. LONDON, January 7. Mr M. S W. Lyttelton, who will defend Thaw, has announced that the plea of not guilty has been withdrawn. They now pleaded that Thaw was insane at the time the deed was committed.
