BOWLING.
NORTHERN TOURNAMENT.
(By Telegraph—Special Reporter). AUCKLAND, January 6. The bowling tournament opened today. A hearty welcome was tendered to all bowlers at 9 a.m., on the Auckland Club's green by the Vice-Presi-dent (Mr J. M. Mennie.) The tournament was opened by Mrs A. M. Myers, wife of the Mayor of Auckland, by throwing up a "jack," and declaring the green open. The bowlers then dispersed to the different greens, the Masterton rinks going to the Remuera green. The following are the Mastertcn rinks:—No. 1: Boagey, D. Mcintosh, Prentice, Cochrane (skip). No. 2: Bartlett, M. Mcintosh, W. Pragnell, 0. Pragnell (skip). MASTERTON v. GREENMEADOWS. The rinks met Greenmeadows. No. 1 were beaten by 34 to 12, ana No. 2 won by 22 to 13, Greeenmeadows winning on the aggregate by 47 to 34. MASTERTON v. DANNEVIRKE. Masterton No. 1 rink, lost by 16— 21, and No. 2 lost by 18 aggregate Masterton lost by 34 —42. MASTERTON v. WANGANUI. Masterton No. 1 rink lost by 15— 25, and No. 2 lost 18 —22. On the aggregate Masterton lost by 33—47. Masterton play Remuera, Carlton and Newtown, to-morrow, on the Auckland green. A large crowd of bowlerj and friends weie entertained at an excursion down the harbour this evening at the invitation of the Mayor. The Masterton colts are playing brilliantly against heavy metal.
