ENGLISH PRESS OPINIONS. LONDON, January 3. The "Daily News," referring to .the Asiatic difficulty, says:—"lt is much more urgent that the colonies should assist in defining the status of the British citizen than dreaming that they will be able to find in trade or Imperial defence a basis of Imperial unity." ■The "Manchester Guardian" declares that Lord Elgin is powerless to modify the policy underlying the Transvaal registration law. It would be impossible to disallow the law without imperilling even greater interests than those of Indian emigrants.
