MURDER IN THE SOLOMONS.
A SKIPPER TOMAHAWKED. BRISBANE, January 4. News from the Solomon Islands states that Captain M'Kenzie, of the ketch Minota, went ashore at the island of Malaita, on November 15!: h to obtain recruits. The natives seized, pinioned, and tomahawked him before the eyes of the crew. The natives looted the Minota, but molested no others of the crew.
FREE TRANSMISSION OF PRESS MESSAGES. CANADIAN RESOLUTIONS. Received January 5, 5 p.m. SYDNEY, January 5. Mr Larce, Commissioner for Canada, has received a resolution passed by the Board of Trade in British Columbia, respecting the supplying of fuller information fur Canadian newspapers from other portions of the Empire. One clause sets forth the desirableness of arrangements being made with other Governments concerned in and responsible for the deficit in the Pacific cable, whereby that line may be used at certain periods of the day when commercial business does not offer, for the free transmission of press despatches to Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
