VELTHEIM BLACKMAIL CASE.

TRIAL AT GUILDHALL. SOLLY JOEL'S EVIDENCE. LONDON, January 3. Frank Veltheim was charged at the Guudhall with having demanded, with menaces, money from Solly Joel. The prosecutor testified that he fii-st saw the accused when in the dock in Johannesburg, 1898, he being then tried in connection with witness' brother's death. Witness produced at the Johannesburg trial seven blackmailing letters, which were now read. The handwriting was the same as that of a letter received in June, 1907, demanding money. The letter was followed by a draft for £16,000, presented through Dr Millar, of Antwerp. Witness, since the trial, at Johannesburg, had not seen prisoner till to-day. Accused was remanded for a week.
