TARATAHI WATER RACE COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Taratahi Water Race Committee was held at the County offices, Carterton, yesterday. There wero present:—Messrs Wm. Perry (chairman), F. W. Moore, VV. Fisher an i T. Ray. A letter was received from Mr T. Compton of Waingawa, asking permission to tap the water-race with a one-inch galvanised pipe to supply his buildings with water. Permission was granted to Mr Compton, on condition that he pays £1 per annum for the use of the water. Mr J. A. O'Connor, of Greytown, wrote stating that he was agreeable for a three-inch pipe to supply water to a section of his property on Rutland road at Carterton. It was resolved that the ranger make in estimate of the cost of the work required to be done. The ranger was instructed to employ a man to inquire into the question of who interferes with the flow of water in the races at Kokotau. On the motion of Mr Moore, seconded by Mr Fisher, it was resolved that notice be given to all persons using the races that flooding will not be allowed, and that offensive rubbish must not be put in the races. It was resolved that the public should be notified by advertisement warning them not to interfere with the water races, and if any person or persons are found doing so prosecution will follow.
