THE PRIME MINISTER INTERVIEWED.
Received January 2, 8.28 a.m. LONDON, January 1. 1 Sir 11. Carnpbell-Bannermau, the British Prime Minister, who still looks wan and strained, after his breakdown in health, though he is considerably better, interviewed at Biarritz, the well-known French wateringplace, said he did not despair of solving the educationl problem, though ".t was a supremely difficult one. The Government, he said, had made substantial reductions in the national expenditu r e, and the nation must trust the Government to do the best possible. He was confident there would be several years of effective work before Parliament was dissolved. The only valid objection to the Government's scheme of reform of the House of Lords was its excessively modest and moderate character. It was intended to make real progress with land law reform. The new Licensing Bill would recognise the main principles advocated by the United Kingdom Alliance.
