TRAGEDY IN HAMPSHIRE.
A MAJOR SHOOTS THREE PERSONS. COMMITS SUICIDE. Received January 2, 9.57 p.m. LONDON, January 2. A tragedy is reported from Crockham. Hampshire. Major Henry Coates Phillips entered the residence of his wife, from whom he was divorced, and attempted to shoot her. She safely fled after the major's first shot. The major then shot her mother and Smith, a solicitor, who were in the house. The latter is in a serious condition. Major Phillips then committed suicide.
