SNOW IN NEW SOUTH WALES ALPINE PARTIES IN TROUBLE. SYDNEY., .December 31. There have been heavy snowstorms in the Alps.. Two parties—one from New South Wales, the other from Victoria—are snowed up. A train to Geelong at a level crossing ran down a trap. William Parker and his daughter were killed and three other of Palmer's children injured. SUPPOSED CASE OP POXNEWCASTLE, December 31. Received December 31, 10.39 p.m. SYDNEY, December 31. During the year closing to-night there were 367 bankruptcies in New South Wales. The liabilities aggregated £219,668, and the assets £154,454.
SHOT DEAD.
A BUSINESS MAN KILLS A STOCKTAKER. Received January 2, 12.18 a.m. SYDNEY, January 1. Henry Price, a well-known business man residing at Newtown, shot a stock taker named Sullivan dead 1 in his shop. Price had assigned his estate, and the victim was engaged to make an inventory. It is believed that Price was insane.

Received January 1, 10.12 a.m. BRISBANE, January 1. An attempt was made to wreck a train near Tiaro. A dog spike was clriven between two rails, but the train passed safely over the obstruction. AN EFFECT OF NEW LIQUOR ACT. SLY GROG-SELLING LARGELY INCREASED. Received January 1, 10.12 a.m. SYDNEY, January 1. The police state that since the new Liquor Act came into operation sly grog-selling has largely increased. The methylated spirit drinking evi' is spreading.
