CALEDONIAN SOCIETY'S CONCERT.

Successful though the annual sports of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society yesterday, the concert given by • the Society in the Town Hall, last evening, was proportionately a great°r success. The building was crowded in every part by an enthusiastic audience, the receipts amounting to £63 §s, exclusive of the revenue from seats booked previously. A very enjoyable programme was submitted, and each of the vocalists received warm applause, and in the majority of cases, an encore. Madame M. Groome, a vocalist wellknown to Masterton audiences, contributed, in her usual fine style, "A Hundred Pipers" and "My Ain Folk." Encored, she gave a delightful rendering of the ever-green "Killarney." Mr S. J. Johnston's fine tenor voice was heard to advantage in "Auld Robin Gray" and "0' a' the'Airta," and he, too, was deservedly encored. In response, he gave "Sally Horner." Mrs Torrence made her debut before a Masterton audience with "Angus McDonald" and "Caller Herrin' " and received the warm plaudits of her hearers, j "Mary of Argyle," by Mr W. S. i Jago followed, and a meritorious performance ensured a vociforous recall. Mr W. Iggulden, in his usual breezy style, contributed "Scots' Wha Hae." Mr F. Elkins was recalled for a spirited rendering of "Robin Adair," and the same singer, in company with Miss M. Fuller, sang, "Ye Banks and Braes," with excellent effect. Mr Harry Hall, as usual, delighted the audience with his comic songs, in some of which he appeared in character. A really good item was a trio, "Willie Brewed Peck o' Maut," sung" with great success by Madame Groome and Messrs Jago and-llunn. In dancing, Mr C. Smith contributed the Shuauntriubhas, Mr J. McKechnie the sword dance, and Miss Pauling the Highland Fling. The programme was brought to a conclusion by the company singing "Auld Lang Syne." The accompanists for the evening were Miss Hood, A.T.CiL., and Messrs Herbert Claughton and S. Ballard.
