METEOROLOGICAL.

UPPER PLAIN RAINFALL. Mr J. C. Boddington reports as follows : The rainfall on the Upper Plain for the twenty-four hours ending 9 a.m. on Ist January was 13 points. Rain fell on the Upper Plain on six days in December. The maximum fall in 24 hours - was 72 points on the 20th, and the minimum 1 point on 21st. The total for the month was 1.07 inches, as against 5.81, 3.42 and. 1.24 inches for December in 1904,, 1905 and 1906 respectively. The total rainfall for the past year' was 54.19 inches, as against 48.98; inches, 51.32 inches and 40.54 inches for 1904, 1905 and 1906 respectively.. In this connection it is interesting to note, in view of the present drought, that whereas November and December only yielded a trifle over half of the average for these months during the previous three years, the record fcr March and May was nearly double? the average during the same period.
