Fire in Auckland Post Office.
AUCKLAND, December 23. About 10.20 o'clock, this morning, an operator passing a small room adjoining the telephone exchange in the post office buildings noticed smoke coming under the door. He at once gave the alarm, but considerable difficulty was experienced in combating the outbreak, the smoke pouring from the room. The staff managed to get the outbreak under control just after the arrival of the fire brigade. The origin of the fire is so far a complete mystery. The room is somewhat damaged, the walls being charred. Many papers suffered through fire and water.
