HIDE AND SKIN SALES.

Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report:—We held our usual, skin and 1 hides sales at Wellington on Friday, Buyers were present in usual numbers, but in most cases bidding was dull. We submitted a lengthy catalogue of skins and hides, and a few bags of wool; also a quantity of tallow. The demand throughout was less keen than at last sale, good, skins showing a decline of about |d. Hides were slightly easier. We quote as follows: SheepskinsFine crossbred, 7£d; medium crossbred, 6£dto 6Jd; dead, 4Jd tosJd;. inferior and broken, 2d to 4|d; pelts, to4d; crossbred, salted, 5s 2d to ss--Bd. Hides—Ox 631b s|d per lb; 501b to 541b, 4£d per lb. Cows—4olb to to 441b, 3£d to 4|d per lb; calf, prime, 5d to 6d per lb. Tallow-In casks, £23 10s to £24 per ton; in tins, 17s per cwt; rough fat, 14s to 18s per cwt. Note—Our next skin, and hide sale will be held on January 3rd, 1908. Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., report. —We beg to report as follows regarding Friday's sale—We held our fortnightly sale to-day, offering 2,500 skins 1,150 hides and calfskins, and a. quantity of tallow and horsehairThere was a good attendance of buyers. Wool is being held for sale, on January 17th, 1908. Skins-The. market was weak, and showed a fall. of one penny to a penny farthing on. prices ruling at the last sale held on* November 22nd. We quote—Merinos, 6Jd to7£d; fine crossbreds, 7c 1 to 7|d;. coarse crossbreds, 5Jd to 6&d; dead skins, 4|dtos|d; dead hoggets, 4d to4Jd; dry pelts, 3d to 4d; green skins, 5s to 6s 6d; green lambs, Is to Is 8d; green pelts, Is to Is 6d. Tallow —Easier. Parcels in shipping: order, £24; tins, £ls to £2l; rough, fat,£l3. Horsehair—ls to Is 4d per lb~ Horns—6s- to 18s 9d per hundreds Cowtails —Is to Is 4d per dozen. Hides—Hides were a halfpennylower. We qoute—Ox hides (extra heavy), s£d to s§d; Ox bides (601b to* 701b), 4|dto s£d; Oxhides, (501b to 591b), 4£d to 4|d; cow-hides, 32 d. to 4&d;' calfskins (best), 5d to 6d; calfksins (cut and slippy), 2d to 4d; hides, (cut and slippy), 2d to 3d; stag hides, 2sd to 3Jd; bull hides, 2£d torSJd. Our next sale will be held on Friday, January 3rd, 1908. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows—Our fortnightly sale, comprising about 2,000 sheepskins and 500 hide, and calfskins, was held on Friday. In sympathy with the lower prices ruling in England for skins and leather, and in Australia for hides we have to report a drop in prices since our last sale held on November 22nd, of 2d to Id per lb in fine crossbred and half bred ljd to l£d in coarse crossbred, and on damaged skins of ljd to 2d per lb. Hides were about id lower, and calfskins (sound) about Jd higher than last sales. Tallow was in fair demand at a shade lower than last sales rates. We quote — Sheepskins—Halfbred and fine crossbred, 7d to 7£d per lb; crossbred, medium, 6d to 6|d; crossbred, coarse, s£dtu6£d; dead, 4d to sd; broken and inferior, l£d to 4d; greenskins, 4s to 6s 8d each; green lambs, 9d to Is; green pells, Is to Is 2d. Hides —Ox, light, 3|d to4£dperlb; ox, heavy, to 5Jd; cow, 3£d to 4d; dam- • aged* 3d to 3£d; calf, sound, 4|d to 5Jd; calf, damaged, Id to 3|d. Tallow— Got d mixed, casks, 24s 6d to 255; tins and packages, 16s to 20s 3J; rough fat, 16s 6d per cwt.
