Prospecting on Egmont.

NEW PLYMOUTH, December 20. After many months delay, the question of allowing or facilitating prospecting for minerals in Egmont National Park was considered at the annual meeting of the board yesterday. Prospectors have procured specimens of iron ore, manganese, copper, and sulphur, large deposits of gold-bearing quartz, and Kaolin clay superior to any yet found in Taranaki. Samples were exhibited showing 67 per cent manganese, and assays of gold quartz giving a gold' value of 25 to a ton of stone A deputation asked permission *"o conduct prospecting operations in the reserve, which is exempt from all operations of the Mining /:ct. It was resolved: That the Board begs to inform the Government that it sees no objection to the area known as Kaitolie Ranges being thrown open to prospecting for a period of twelve months.
