The country was greatly in need of rain, and the milk supplies at factories were falling considerably, The crops were drying up, and the prospects generally were bad. CHRISTCHURCH, December 20. Heavy rain commenced to fall yesterday afternoon, but the weather cleared at midnight. It will do immense good to the country but there must be a heavier fall soon if the harvest is to be up to the average.
