ing wire-netting under the control of the Federal Customs, has been postponed until March. ROBBED WHILE-SHOPPING. Received December 18, 10.10 a.m. SYDNEY, December 18. A lady, while shopping in the city, had a bag containing £6OO worth of jewellery and £lO in money stolen from her. The bag, with the whole of the jewellery, was returned through the post, but the money was retained.
LOCAL OPTION IN NEW SOUTH WALES. I t WRIT OF PROHIBITION. Received December 18, 10.10 a.m. SYDNEY, December 18. At the local Option Court, the president announced that a writ of prohibition restraining further proceedings in connection with the classification of licensed premises had been granted. The points at issue were those recently raised. The situation at present is that the court cannot take further action until the'first day of the next term, unless upon application to the Pull Court. The Crown can,obtain stay of proceedings. It is understood, however, that the Government intends to bring do.wn a declaratory measure before the session closes, making clear the intention of the legislature with regard to the Local Option Provisions Act. FOUND DROWNED. Received December 19, 12.30 a.m. SYDNEY, December 18. At the inquest on the body of the boy Barlow, found in the harbourwith a hatpin near the heart, an open verdict was returned. The medical evidence showed that death was due to drowning, and that the hatpin, though it did not pierce the heart, was inserted during life, and could have been done by the lad himself. There have been disgraceful scenes of crowding and jostling during the hearing of the Wallace divorce case. A big crowd, mostly women, struggled to gain admission.
