WAIRARAPA HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the report of the Wairarapa Horticultural and Industrial Society to be presented at the annual meeting to be held at Carterton, on Saturday afternoon next:— We have much pleasure in presenting to you our eleventh annual report and balance sheet, and in doing so congratulate the society on its continued success, as shown by the financial results. We held two shows during the year, a summer show in February and a spiing f,how in September. We had unfavourable weather for the fol-mer, which caused a shrinkage in the attendance receipts. We distributed prize moneys and trophies to the value of £6B 10s. Acting on the recommendation of last year's committee we included'in our programme prizes for district school gardens, for which there was good competition at the summer show. Since then the Wairarapa Pastoral and Agricultural Society have taken over the school competitions witii very good results, as they have the machinery for carrying out this work 011 much wider lines than this society can cope with. Mr R. G. Welch kindly undertook to collect the prizes for schools competitions, in which he was very successful. Your thanks are due to him and to the dona tors of prizes to the schools and to the general public. We started the year with a credit balance of £BB 13s Bd, and the year has closed with a credit balance of £2B 3s 4d, the difference being mainly due to a shrinkage in the receipts at the summer show owing to the unfavourable weather. We tender our sincere thanks to the ladies who provided and supervised the refreshments, to the judges, the staging committee, the auditor, Mr J. MoncriefT, jnr., and the secretary and assistant. —A. BOOTH, President, i
