THE BRUCE CASE.

AN APPEAL. Received December 9, 8.37 a.m. LONDON, December 8. Justices Buckley and Kennedy granted Lord de Walden's appeal against a decision permitting Robert Caldwell's evidence in the comingcivil action to be taken on commission. The court held that Caldwell was a crucial witness, and that it was essential that his story should be tested before a jury. a WHO DR. SHAW IS. Received December 9, 8.37 a.m LONDON, December 8. The Dr. Shaw mentioned in yesterday's cable gave evidence in the will suit brought by Mrs Druce against the executors of T. C. Druce,in 1901.

(Edmund Shaw, a Southport doctor, informed the Daily Newstiiat he was a personal friend and neighbour ,of Druce, at Millhill He medically attended him throughout 1864 for dyspepsia. Druce underwent a serious operation in September, and the doctor saw him thrice daily until the i night of December 27th, when he left, dying very early on 28th December. Dr. Shaw was summoned to the bedside, and found that Druce had just died. He gave a certificate of death and assisted the nurse to lay out the body. He also attended the funeral at Highgate. There were a dozen mourning coaches. He never saw signs of skin disease on Druce's face. Druce wore a natural dark beard and side whiskers. Dr. Shaw went to New Zealand and to Tasmania, and settled at Southport in 1867.)
