THE BROOKLYN TRAM ACCIDENT.
AN AWARD FOR DAMAGES. WELLINGTON, December 9. His Honour, Mr Justice Button, and a special jury, to-day, heard a case in which Richard Elliott, a baker, sued the City Council for £SOO for injuries received in a tram accident on the Brooklyn line last May. The Council had paid £65 into court in satisfaction of the plaintiff's claim. The council contended that the plaintiff was exaggerating his injuries. The jury awarded £250. , A new trial is to be moved for on the ground that the damages given by the jury ire excessive.
