CASTLEPOINT COUNTY COUNCIL.
The annual statutory meeting of the Castlepoint County Council was held on Saturday last, when all the members were present. The whole council were appointed a works and finance committee; three
to form a quorum. A memorial to the Governor was signed.asking him to proclaim certain lands taken for roads through the Native reserves at Whakataki and Castlepoint. A set of standing orders were drafted and ordered to be printed. Mr Barton attended the meeting with Mr Robinson in respect to the road down the Whakataki creek, and the impounding of cattle from the Native reserve, and applied, to be permitted to erect a gate across the road. The council objected to the erection of a gate across the road. Several notices of the election of trustees for Hospitah and Charitable Aidiloardo were received, but no appointments of representatives were made.
Mr White wrote stating that he could not provide the black birch pules for the protective works in the Mangapakeha as promised. Messrs JNicholls and Dalziell wrote declining to carry out contract No. 24 (mutallinfr 25 chains of road on the Tinui-Manawa road at Mr Peagram's). The Lands and Survey Department advised the council that the .survey of the road from Tinui Valley to Pakewai had cost about £SO in excess of the estimate through rough weather, and asked that the amount be provided. Messrs Hogg and Hornsby, M.P's., furnished favourable replies in respect to the renewal of Government grants. Mr Geo. Taylor applied to have his name put upon the electoral roll in place of Mr 11. Cowin. Mr Armor applied for some timber to erect a culvert over the drain at his shop, which was not agreed to. It was decided to metal about six or seven chains of road at Flag Creek, provided Mr Lett would undertake to do the work. it was agreed to call for tenders to clo.se on December 2lst for metaliing on the Big Hill and on the Post Office road at Langdalt. The clerk was directed to have a conveyance prepared of the piece of land at Black Swamp bridge taken
