There is a better demand for mutton for forward delivery, and general confidence in the maintenance of the present prices. Canterbury mutton is quoted at Sld.and North Island at 3§dThe iyjfiib market is a shade weaker, and the demand is falling off. Canter bury lamb is quoted at s§d, and other than Canterbury at 5Jd. The beef market is quiet, but rather steadier, i Hindquarters are quoted at 3£d, and > forequarters at 2|d. The butter market is firm with an | improved demand and good enquiry is expected until Christmas. The choicest New Zealand is bringing 118 a , Australian 117s, Argentine 118s, Danish 122s and Siberian 110s. The cheese maiket is quiet with a tendency in favour of buyers. Canadian manufacture is quoted at 625. The hemp market is rather unsettled on account of Manila offering freely at lower prices. Good fair grade on spot is quoted at £29 10s, fair grade £2B 10s, fair current Manila £3O, October-Decemher shipments, good fair grade, £2B 10s for fair grade, £27 10s for fair current Manila, £29 January to March shipments, £2B for good fair grade, £27 for fair grade, and £2B 10s for fair current Manila. The cocksfoot market is quiet, but { holders are firm. Light stocks are on j hand, and there is no pressure to sell. Bright, clean, 171b seed, is quoted at 75s per ton.
