The gas manager's report stated that the work of replacing the 3in main in Queen Street, from the post office to Bruce Street with a Gin main, would be completed in the course of a few days. The manager recommended (1) that the present ljin main in Bannister Street and Colombo Road he replaced with a 3in main from f ,he gasworks to the corner of Worksop Road and Colombo Road, a distance of 35 chains; (2) that a temporary ljin service be run from Chapel vStreet to the houses of Messrs Bulpitt and Aronstein in Michael Street; (3) that the appli cation of a Lansdowne resident for a supply of gas to a 4-h.p. gas engine be granted. A list of long-outstanding rates, amounting approximately to £2OO, was considered for some time. In some cases, where circumstances such as extreme poverty prevented the payment, the committee recommended the Council to remit the sums owing, under the powers vested in them by the Rating Act, but in all other cases, where the committee are satisfied that the rates are due and recoverable, instructions were given for legal proceedings to recover the same to be instituted at once. Accounts amounting to £964 os Id were recommended for payment.
