Jean Francois Gallav, formerly a clerk employed by the Comptoir National des Comptes of Paris, who was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment for stealing enormous sums, the property of the bank, has committed suicide. Rear-Admiral Mason, reporting to the Bureau of Ordnance, urges the passing of legislation authorising the purchase of ordnance, projectiles, powder and torpedoes abroad, owing to the inability of domestic manufacturers to supply them within a reasonable time. The historic Pebin Gazette has ceased to appear, and has been replaced by an excellent modern newspaper named the Changchia Kuanpas, dealing with matters affecting the whole of the Empire. Received November 25, 11.30 p.m. NEW YORK, November 25. Lieutenant Crawford. Admiral Dewey's secretary, committed suicide in the Potomac river owing to losses over the banking crisis. A woman named Smith, who simi larly lost £400,000, shot her husband and herself, and set fire to the house after saturating the room with kerosene. Both are dead.
