CRICKET.
ENGLAND v. NEW SOUTH WALES. Received November 22, 7.59 p.m
SYDNEY, November 22,
For the cricket match, New South Wales v. England, which commenced to-day, there was fine weather and a strong breeze blowing. The wicket was hard. The Englishmen batted first.
Hutchings gave a nice exhibition, though he was somewhat lucky. Johnson was bowling capitally, and struck his length early. There was very slow play till Rhodes a"icl Hardstaff became associated. With four wickets down for 118, the new partnership carried the total to 207 before they were separated, both batsmen succumbing in rapid succession. Barnes and Crawford were uncomfortable against Cotter, who got on terrific pace. At 233 Crawford was dismissed by Hopkins for 17. Seven wickets having fallen for the total mentioned, play became very tedious, Barnes and Humphries stonewalling. When Humphries was dismissed, Blythu and Barnes pursued similar t-.ctic?, and crept slowly into double figures. A brilliant catch by Noble at point disposed of Barnes. Fielder, the last man, played out time. Nine wickets were down for 289. Scores—

The Wellington Cricket Association is desirous of playing a match on December 21st, with the Wairarana Association. The secntary of the local association (Mr F. P. Welch) had written to the Wellington Association the day before he received the latter's communication, Fiiggesting December 25th and 2Gth as the dates for the match. Warwick Armstrong was an absentee from the Victorian eleven that recently played the , next, fifteen owing to his eyes having troubled him for some time. This probably accounts for his not playing against the Englishmen. The following team has been selected to represent the Carterton Club against Carlton A, at Masterton, this afternoon : Balfour, JJeechey, Carroll, Elliott, Feast, Gallon (2), Hart, Kessel, Smart and Welch. A movement is on foot to form a cricket club at Kopuaranga.
