COUNTRY TEACHERS' RESIDENCES.
IJY TEIiEORAPU—PRESS ASSOCIATION. WANGANUI, November 21. The condition of some country teachers' residences was adversely commented on at the meeting of the Education Board last evening-. One member quoted a case where a house was in such a damp situation that moss wis constantly sprouting in the fireplaces. The chairman "(Mr P. Pirani) said he knew of another house where scones had to be eaten the same day as they were cooked because next day were covered with a coat of mildew owing to tha damp. The Herald, referring to the question suggests that the matterr of country teachers' residences is one that might well be *aken up by the New Zealand Educational Institute, and states that under the present conditions men charged with an allimportant national duty are often asked to work undor disheartening circumstances. One member of the board, at last night's meeting, said that the Government were talking a lot about what they were doing for education, and it was time they made a start to house the teachers decently.
