CARTERTON SHOW.
The thirtieth annual show of the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society Will be opened on the society's grounds, at Carterton, to day, and will he Continued to-morrow. Satisfactory entries have been received, and the class of stock to beshown compares favourably with former shows. The entries in the sheep classes are considerably in excess of last year's number, and the quality will doubtless be up to the usual high standard. The entrifes in Lincolns number 36 as against 21 last year. The exhibitors are Messrs W. C. Buchanan, W. Perry, J. Col : lins, J. W. Compton, and W. Rayner. Mr R. Bremer, of Waverley, wilt judge this class. The Romney Marsh class show an increase in numbers of eight on last year's entry (69). The exhibitors include such weli-known breeders as Messrs W. B. Allen, G. E. Allen, Gray Bros., J. Collins, R. E! Bannister, W. H. and A. E. Booth, W. H. Buick, W. Rayner and F. Meenkin. Mr R. Tanner, of Longburn, will judge this class. Mr R. Bremer, of Waverley, will judge the Leicsster classes. In Border Leicesters there are eleven entries, as against eight last year. The only exhibitors are Messrs W. Howard Booth and G. Seivers. The number oE entries in English Leicesters is 28, an increase of two as compared with last year; Messrs W. C. Buchanan, W. Perry, H. R. Bunny and H. G. Tancred are the exhibitors.
The entries in the Southdown classes, which will be judged by Mr H. Overton, of Fendaltonj show an increase of one on last year's number (37). Messrs John Strang and A. H. Rolio are the principal exhibitors. Shropshire Downs are well represented by 87 entries, as compared with 17 last year. The exhibitors in this class are Messrs W. Howard Booth, G. Can,pbel!, Peter Cooper, G. H. Gafyer, W. Rayner and J. W. Compton. Mr Overton will also judge this class. The farmers' classes are also well represented, and give promise ofdteen competition. Pigs are represented by 42 entries, and will be judged by Mr R. Charmley, of Woodville. In the dog classes there are 47 entries. Mr S. Johnson, of Palmerston North, will judge this class.
In cattli there are 122 entries. In Purebred Shorthorns, which Mr K. Hay, of Christchurcl', will ju.dge, the exhibits number the same as last year, viz., 21. The breeders showing are Mess~s W. C. Buchanan, A. Chamberlain, and the trustees of the late D. McMaster. In Hereford ai d Polled Angus there are no entries. In Grade Shorthorns the entries number four, as against 27 last year, the exhibitors being Messrs W. B. Bidwill and W. Howard Booth. Fat cattle are also poorly repre sented, the entries being six against 26 last year. Mr W. Clarkson, of Featherston, will judge this class.
Dairy cattle are well represented. Ayrshires, which will be judged by Mr A. Gibbs, Nelson, are represented by 13 entries, as against 11 last year. Jerseys and Aldevneys will be judged by Mr E. Di McLennan, of Papakura. The entries total 30. This class was represented by 20 entries last year. Mr W. I. Lovelock is ths only exhibitor in the Holsfein-Friesi; n class, with four entries. Milkers are a strong class, the entries numbering aa .• •• _*. Ie same as iu,. year. Poultry, pigeons, and farm and dairy produce are strong classes, and there should be keen competition. In the hcrse classes, there are 209 entries, and in competitions 122 entries. The society's secretary (Mr H. S. Moss) has all the arrangements complete for the show, which promises to be a decided success.
