£ ■ — W Messrs A. Donald, A. J. Parton and J. Brassell have passed the examination for the second course in the first aid section of ambulance work held in Masterton last Friday. The candidates were instructed by Dr. Cowie, and the examination was conducted by Dr. Cook. Mr W. Knight, an old resident of Masterton, and father of Messrs Knight Bros., of Eketahun?, is lying ill in the Masterton Hospital. The death occurred in the Masterton Hospital, yesterday morning, of Mr William Baker, at the age of 66 years. The deceased was well-known in Masterton, having resided iirthe town for thirty-three years. He was a prominent figure in Salvation Army circles. He had been an inmate of the hospital for some time past, and death was due to heart failure. The deceased, who was a native of Salehurst, Sussex (England), leaves a widow and family of two sons - Messrs A. E. and William Baker—and two daughters —Mesdames W. Norman, of Masterton, and O'Meara, of Pahiatua—to mourn their loss. A Press Association telegram from Napier states that another of Napier's old identities, Mr T. R. Cooper, the well-known architect, passed away on Saturday evening, as the result of a paralytic seizure. Deceased, who was 82 years of age, came to the colony in the very early day?, and participated in several gold rushes before settling down to the practice of his profession. ,
