* HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, October 28. The High Commissioner's cable states that there has been a better tone in the mutton market this week in anticipation of small shipments "from New Zealand. River Plate mutton is in large supply, being strongly pushed for sale at 3d. Canterbury :mutton is ,quoted at 3|d, North Island BJd. The lamb market is steady, and there is a good demand for prime quality, but there is a dull sale for heavy carcases, Canterbury lamb is ouoted at 5Jd, other than Canterbury ■■SJd. The beef market is weak with heavy supplies of River Plate beef. ■New Zealand hindquarters are bringing 3§d, forequarters 2|d. The butter market is very firm, and is excited by a speculative demand owing to the expectation of small supplies coming forward. Supplies on hand are sma'l. The choicest New Zealand is quoted at 120s, Danish 128s, Siberian 110s. The cheese market is quiet with a tendency in favour of buyers. Canadian manufacture is quoted at '64s for coloured makes, and. 63s for white. The hemp market is dull and heavy shipments are expected from Manila. The American disturbance affects the market very Eeriously. Current quotations are:—Good fair grade on spot £29, fair grade on spot £27 10s, fair current Manila on spot £29, Oc-tober-December shipments, good -fair grade, £27 10s, fair grade £26 IQs, fair current Manila £2B. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, and buyers are nut keen to do business. There is no change in prices :since last, week. The wool market is firm, and there is a general and active demand.
