THE MARYLEBONE TEAM. MATCH AGAINST WESTERN AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph—Press Association. Received October 27, 5.8 p.m. PERTH, October 26. The Marylebone team of cricketers opened their Austra'ian tour to-day in a match against Western Australia. Although the majority of the membars showed the effect of the voyage several managed in view of the weak bowling side to make fair scores. Fane was the chief of 'these, and after "getting his eye" in gave an aggressive display, which resulted in being placed opposite his name. His innings, however, was not without a blemish. He was given a "life" at 24, and then again after recording his century. Braur.d played' up to form,, while both Hardstaff and Crawford gave a lively exposition. When stumps wero drawn England had lost seven wickets for 350, of wiiinh Fane contributed 133, Braund 50, Hardstaff 46, Jones (captain) 45, and Crawford 43. (The team, which is under the management of Major Phillip Trevor, is composed of the following players: —Amateurs: A. 0. Jones, Notts, captain; K. L. Hutchings, Kent; J. N. Crawford, Surrey; F. L. Fane, Essex; R. A. Young, Sussex. Professionals: J. Humphries, Derbyshire; L. C. Braund, Somerset; 0. Blythe, Kent; A. Fielder, Kent; W. Rhodes, Yorkshire; E. G. Hayes, Surrey; J. B. Hobbs, Surrey; J. I-landstaff, Nottingham; S. F. Barnes, Staffordshire. Reserve: G. Gunn, Nottingham. After playing West Australia, the team will jome oi\ to Adelaide and Melbourne. The second round of the senior cricket competition commenced today, in dull weather. The scores wero as follow:—East Christchurch, first innings, 145 (A Costelloe 52 not out) v. West Cli"istchurch, 147 for
2 wickets (H t B. Lusk 61 not out). Linwood 189 (11. A. Bishop 41, R. Read 45), v. St. Albans 72 for 3 wickets (T. W. Reese 45 not out). Sydenham 254 (A. H. Neild 107, H. M. Moorhouse 45) v. Riccarton 9 for no wickets). By Telegraph—Press Association. DUNEDIN, October 27. The cricket season opened, yesterday, in fine weather. In the match Cavisbrook A v. Albion, the former made 146 in their first innings (Butler 55 not ou'-, Bannerman 32), and have lost two wickets for 8 runs in their second innings. Albion made 101 (McFarlane 25, Corbett 22). Dunedin made 146 (J. Graham 29, j Thrrance 27) against Carishrook B. The latter have made 81 for the loss of 6 wickets (Drumm 24, Poster 23 not out). Grange compiled 137 in their first innings against Opoho, and have lost 1 wicket for 6 in their second innings, while Opoho were dismissed for 58. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, October 27. The cricket season in Auckland opened, yesterday, in fine weather and in the presence of a large attendance. The Eden seniors made 185 and North Shore have put up 39 runs for the loss of three wickets. For Eden, M. B. Smith made 48, G. B. Cummins 46, H. Hobson 40. City ,hi their first innings made 112 (Grainger 43, I-lemus 23), and Parnell have lost two wickets for 46 (R. Barry 26) Grafton made 129 (R. ..Jones 39) against Ponsonby. The latter team had just commenced their first innings when time was called.
