By Telegraph—Press Association. Received October 27, 6.58 a.m. MELBOURNE, October 26. It is believed that the true story regarding the running of Apologue in the Caulfield Cup has not yet been disclosed. It is stated that Mr R. Cleland, the owner of Apologue, being upset as the result of th* race, suggested to the V.A.T.C. Committee to hold a« enquiry into the matter, but the suggestion . was not received favourably, and Mr Cleland then demanded an enquiry. The Committee, after giving the matter consideration, replied that it would hold the enquiry if Mr Cleland would pay all the expenses of the same. Mr Cleland is now considering the Commitee's proposal. In any case Coffey, v/ho rode. Apologue in the Caulfield Cup, is not likely to ride the New Zealander in the Melbourne Cup. May King pulled up slightly lame after winning the Moonee Valley Cup. The latest quotations in connection with the Melbourne Cup are as follow —3 to 1 against Apologue, 7 to 1 Tartan, 8 to 1 Mountain King, 10 to I Mooltan, Poseidon and Welcome Trist (12 'to 1 is wanted about the latter), 16 to 1 Spinaway, 20 to) Bendfgo, Dyed Garments and Tulkeroo.
