WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. From Our Carterton Correspondent. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council was held at the County Offices, on Saturday, there being present—Crs Wil • liam Perry (chairman), R. G. Welch, F. Court, R. Barrel-, D. Douglas, H. S. Mason, and J. Strang. The treasurer's statement, which i showed a credit balance at the Bank of New Zealand of £653 0s 3d, and receipts since last meeting £556 16s 9d, was read and adopted. Cr Welch gave notice that he would move at the next meeting—"That the Belvedere Road to Eagle's corner and Dalefield Road to Bassett's be proclaimed main roads." An infectious disease, viz., scarlet, fever, was reported to exist in the Belvedere and Dalefield ridings. A letter was read from Mr S. L. C. Parke, roadman at Ahiaruhe, asking that his cottage should be put into repair. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr Douglas, it was decided that the engineer be instructed to make an inspection of the building, and report as to the necessary repairs at the next meeting; An application was received from Mr A. King asking for the use of the Council's road-grader, which he wished to use for the formation of a proposed new street. The application was granted oh certain conditions. A letter was received from Mr H. C. Thompson, of Waingawa, asking that necessary works be effected on Mount Holdsworth Road. The road, he said, was in very bad order in places, and heavily laden vehicles had great difficulty in passing along it. On the motion of Cr Moore, seconded by Cr Stevens, it was decided that the repairs asked for be put in hand. Messrs Grace Bros, and Mrs Strang wrote asking for permission to erect a gate across Admiral Road, between their respective boundaries. Cr Douglas moved, and Cr Stevens seconded, that the request be granted subject to the usual conditions. The motion was carried. The Featherston County Council wrote agreeing to the appointment of a committee to discuss matters in connection with the Waiohine Bridge. It was decided that a meeting of the committee should be called for Saturday next, November 2nd, to be held at the bridge, to discuss the nature of the works required. A letter was received from Mr A. L. Webster, Secretary to the Greytown Hospital Board, notifying the Council that a meeting of representatives of local bodies would be held at Greytown on December 2nd for the purpose,.of electing seven Trustees for the South Hospital. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Perry, seconded Cr Moore, that Cr Welch should be appointed to represent the Council. A letter was received from the Wellington Benevolent Contributors' Institution intimating that an election of six trustees, representing the local bodies contributing to the institution, would be held in Wellington on December 2nd, and asking the Council to appoint a delegate to vote at the election. Mr J. C. Stevens was appointed delegate. The Masterton County Council wrote in reference to the swing bridge at Waingawa, and stated that it was unsafe for traffic. The Masterton County Council offered the sum of £2 towards the cost of repairs, and asked the Council to contribute a like amount. Cr Moore reported that he had inspected the bridge in question, and stated that the structure was beyond repair. Ic was decided to write to the Masterton County Council to that effect. A deputation waited on the Council and asked that the Svvamp Road be re-metalled. On the motion of Cr Court, seconded by Cr Douglas, it was resolved that the work asked for be commenced as soon as possible. The engineer's l-eport was read. The condition of the White Bridge was brought before the meeting. It was decided that Crs R. G. Welch, T. V. Moore and G. Stevens sliould be appointed a committee to deal with the matter. It was resolved that tenders be called for metalling East Taratahi and Kokotau Roads. , The Chairman moved, and Cr Strang seconded, that a groyne be put in on Kokotau Road and basket willows planted. The motion was carried. On the motion of Cr Strang", seconded by Cr Barrel", it was decided that the sum of £ls should be expended in metalling Ahiaruhe Road. Accounts amounting to £276 lis 7d were passed for payment.
