WAIRARAPA CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

PROGRAMME COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Programme Committee of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society was held on Saturday last. There were present Messrs D. McLachlan (chairman), A. Haughey, J. B. McKenzie, A. McLeod, J. H. Pauling, W. Sellar, A. Turner and T. Wyeth. An apology for absence was received from Mr T. P. Lett. Mr J. B. McKenzie reported that he, in conjunction with Mr E. E. Chamberlain, had waited on the A. and P.. Association's Ground Committee and had secured the use of the Showgrounds and buildings for the sports on January Ist, 1908, at a rental of £lO. The programme for the next sports meeting was then considered. On the motion of Mr McKenzie it was decided that all bicycle events be deleted, and the total value of prizes given in these events on tlio last programme be allocated to a Sheffield Handicap of 120 yards, to be run in heats of five competitors; the winner of each heat excepting the semi-final and final heats to receive 10s; the first prize to be £25, second prize £B, and third prize £3. It was resolved not to increase the aggregate prize money, and last year's programme was agreed to with the exception of the following alterations and additions: —(1) Running high jump to be a handicap event, handicaps to be declared on the grounds; (2) schools handicap of 220 yards, to be made open to any Wairarapa schoolboy; (3) one man sawing competition to be struck out; (4) maiden bagpipe music to be altered from reels and strathspeys to marches; (5) catch-as-catch-can wrestling to be altered to maiden wrestling, Cumberland style; (6) a light caber to be substituted for a heavy one in the tossing the caber event; (7) an event for juvenile dancing (Highland Fling) to be added, open to boys and girls under 16 years of age, first prize £2, second £l, third 10s; (8) three boys' and one girl's races to be added and run at regular intervals, entries to be made on the grounds, prizes in each event to be —first 7s 6d, second 5s and third 2s 6d; (9) hop, step and jump and vaulting events to be added, four entries to be made in each or no event, first prize £2, second £1; (10) no gold medal to be offered for aggregate points in 100 yards, 220 yards, and 440 yards events.

MEETING OP DIRECTORS. The Directors of the Society also met on Saturday, there being present:— Messrs D. McLachlan (chairman), A. Haughey, J. Harvey, R. Gray, Jas. McKenzie, J. B. McKenzie, A. McLeod, G.-McHattie, J. H. Pauling, W. Sellar, G. R. Svkes, A. Turner, E. H. Waddington, T. Wyeih. An apology for absence was received from Mr T. P. Lett. The programme as drafted by .he Programme Committee, was adopted. Messrs J. McPhee, John Mackay and R. Mackay wrote expressing their willingness to assist in forming a pipe band, to be under the control oi the Society. Messrs W. Smith, J. and R. Mackay attended the meeting and gave an outline of the working of a pipe band. On the motion of Mr Pauling, seconded by Mr Turner, it was resolved that the Society form a pipe band, to be known as the "Wairarapa Caledonian Pipe Band," the affairs of which are to be managed by a committee consisting of Messrs R. Gray, J. B. McKenzie, J. H. Pauling, A. Turner and officers' of the Society ex officio. Messrs W. P. Simpson, D. McGregor. jnr., John Carswell and John Mackay were elected members of the Society. The resignations of Messrs J. 0. McKillop, P. L. Rollings, 11. C. L. Robinson, R. Pringle and John Pickett were accepted. The following officials were appointed for the next sports meeting: —Handicappers—Messrs J. H. Pauling and T. Wyeth, quoits; H. Wolfe, Eltham, sawing; Ulic Shannon, running. Timekeepers—Messrs J. W. Cochrane, J, C. Ewington, A. Henderson, G. R. Sykes, E. H. Waddington and D. Walsh. Starters Messrs R. Gray, A. Haughey, W. D. Watson and G. R. Sykes. Superintendent—Mr T. P. Lett. Referee Mr J. H. Pauling. Judges—Messrs E. E. Chamberlain J. W. Cochrane, J. A. and L. Donald, A. Haughey, J. L. Murray, H. J. O'Leary (running and high jump), G. Heron, A. Mutrie, F. W. H. Kummer, W. Smith (wrestling putting the stone, tossing the caber, vaulting and hop, step and jump), W. H. Beetham, C. E. Daniell, G. and J. McHattie, A. McLeod, J. B. McKenzie, T. Wyeth (sawing and chopping.)
