MASTERTON RACES

CONCLUDING DAY. The spring meeting of the Masterton Racing Club, which was concluded yesterday, was a record one in every way, and the officers have every reason to feel proud of the result. Not only did the nominations and acceptances establish a record, but the fields and the attendance of the public where the largest seen at Qpaki. In addition to this the money put through the totalisator was well ahead of any amount hitherto received, and the gate takings and •other miner receipts are expected to show a large increase. Yesterday the weather was ideal for racing and for an "off" day the attendance was excellent. Large fields contested the several events, and the racing generally was firstclass. The last race of the day was a "boil •over." Strathcona and'Waicola carried by far the bulk of the money, but the winner turned up in a rank "outsider," Anga Moana, who won fairly comfortably, and paid the largest dividend of the meeting, viz., £39 7s. ... Delaney, said the horse was lame, and the Stewards after giving consideration to the matter took no action. After the Scurry Hack Handicap Clem was offered for sale by auction by Mr J. R. Nicol, but the St.Cbments gelding was passed in when th 3 bidding had reached 75 guineas. Speculation was very brisk on both clays.
