TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF A TRUST. EXCITEMENT IN WALL STREET. Received October 23, 9.59 p.m. NEW YORK, October 23. A sudden and persistent run has precipitated the temporary suspension of the Knickerbocker Trust, causing excitement in Wall Street. Heavy selling in all departments led to another slump in shares. Acute weakness has been experienced on the Pittsburg and Philadelphia Exchanges in sympathy with New York. Mayer and Company, members of the New York Stock Exchange, dealing mainly in Delaware and Hudson Railroad stock, have failed for six million dollars. They have issued a statement predicting the payment of all liabilities, and a speedy resumption of business. Mr G. B. Cortelyou, Secretary of the Treasury, has deposited six million dollars with the National Banks of New York. It is reported that he will, if necessary, deposit a further fifteen million dollars.
