ALLEGED THEFT OF LODGE FUNDS.
William Douglas Ayson appeared on remand before Mr W. P. James, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court, yesterday morning, charged with the theft at Masterton on June 4th of t'io sum of £l7 8s 2d, the property of Stonehenge Lodge, U.A.O.D. Mr C. A. Pownall appeared for the prosecution, and Mr P. L. Hollings for the defence. Mr Pownall said that the accused had only been arrested on Saturday evening, and he (Mr Pownall) was unable to go on with the case at once. He therefore asked for a remand. The Magistrate asked whether any further charges were fo be preferred against the accused. Mr Boilings objected to that question being asked at the present juncture. The Magistrate did not press his question, stating that he only desired the information for the purpose of assisting him in fixing the bail. The accused was remanded to appear on Wednesday next, bail being allowed, accused in £IOO, and t-wo sureties of £SO each.
