WELLINGTON, October 14. The High Commissioner cabled from London on Saturday last as folio ws:— Mutton — The market is weak. There is however, speculative buying induced by lower prices. River Plate mutton is in large supply, being strongly pushed for sale at 3d per lb; Canterbury mutton, 3fd; North Island, 3Jd. Lamb —The maiket is firm, and the weather'continues favourable for sales. Stocks on hand are light and are firmly held in few 1 ands. Canterbury brand, 5Jd per lb; other than Canterbury 5Jd. Beef— The market is weak the supply exceeding the demand. Hindquarters 3|d per lb; forequarters 2|d per lb. Butter—The market is very firm and there is a general and active demand .Jand in anticipation of small supplies coming forward butter is rising. Choicest New Zealand 114s per cwt; Aust-alian 114s; Australian saltless 116s; Danish 119s; Siberi: n 104s. Cheese—The market is very firm and price advancing. The demand is active and retailers have combined to advance at once the price to 7Jd, The prospects for next season are encouraging. Canadian cheese 64s and 63s coloured and white makes Hemp.—The market is quiet with small business being done. Reports from Manila indicate that heavy shipments of hemp are expected. Good fair grade on spot, £3O 10s per ton; fair grade, £2B 10s; fair current Manila, £32 10s; OctoberDecember shipments, good to fair, £3O; fair grade, £2B; fair current Manila, £3O 10s. Cocksfoot seed—Market very firm and active owing to advices of small shipments. There ara only light stocks of seed on hand. Bright, clean, 171b parcel's are quoted at 73s per cwt. Current "quotations for Bradford tops are as follow: Thirty-six's, low crossbiel", Is 3£d; 40's low crossbreds, Is 4jd; 44's, medium crossbreds, Is 5Jd; 50's, halfbreds, Is 10£ d; 56's, quarterbreds, 2sl£d; 60's, merino, 2s 4£d. The following meat reached England from the River Plate during the ' month of September:—Mutton—London, 114,97 L carcases; Liverpojl, 118,595; Hull, 10,400; Cardiff, IQ>35; Southampton, 1,104; Plymouth, 1,885; total, 257,890 carcases. Lamb—London, 1,972 carcases; Liverpool, 1,699; Cardiff, 100; total, 3,771 carcases.
