CARTERTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent). V Thursday. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year at the annual meeting of the Carterton Cricket held last night:—Patron, Mr W. C. Buchanan; P-esident, Mr W. Moore; Vice-Presidents, Messrs W. B. Allen, W. H. Booth, H. L. Bunny, G. W. Dellor, J. A. Dodson, A. Gallon, E. S. Maunscll, L. Nix and A, Krahagetf; Secretary and Treasurer, .Mr L. H. Smart; Delegates to the Association, Messrs H. Hart and L. J3. Smart; Management Committee, Messrs T. E. Maunsell, F. Carroll, E. Hart and L. H. Smart. Entries are coming in freely for the annual show of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society, to be held on November 20th and 21st. Twenty-five shillings a cord is the price being paid in Carterton for two-foot firewood. Mrs., Hughes entertained the members of the Methodist Church Choir, last night, at her residence, when an enjoyable time was spent. Another old settler, in the person of Mr James Alfred Ordish, died at his residence, at Clareville, this morning, at the age of 74 years. The deceased some years ago carried on business as a draper, and was very well-known amongst the early settlers. Two sons and five daughters are left to mourn their loss. In the report of the Carterton Technical School, presented to Parliament, it was shown that work in the different departments was very satisfactorily carried out, but the, fact was commented upon that very few availed themselves of the opportunity of attending the classes. In sokte of the few receiving instruction, it was recommended that the classes should be continued. The Wairarapa South County Council's engineer, Mr F. T. M. Kessel, is suffering from a severe attack of influenza.
