WASTERTON RACING CLUB.

MEETING OF STEWARDS,

The monthly meeting of the Stew-

ards of the Masterton Racing Club / was held on Saturday afternoon, there being present: —Messrs C. P. Valance.. (chairman), R. Buick, W. CoopprT*J. Macara, W. lorns, D. Caselberg, J. Cress, W. Piatt, D. McLachlan, A. J. Welch, J. lorns, O. C. Cooper, A. G. Pilmer, C. A. Pownall. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £E2 6s 3d.

. The Secretary of the Wairarapa Association wrote stating that the Holidays Committee had granted a holiday from twelve noon on October 24th, the first day of the races.

The offer of Mr Reihana Boyes to provide a string band for the forthcoming races on the same terms as last year was accepted. Mr E. Peliing wrote offering £7 for the privilege of the luncheon booths at the forthcoming races. The Stewards decided to offer Mr Peliing the privilege for £lO, on the understanding that £5 will be refunded if the luncheon prepared is to the satisfaction of the stewards.

A dispute between P. Wadham and M. McGrath, in connection with the former's apprenticeship was referred to the Racing Conference for settlement.

It was decided to recommend F. Langstone and L. A. Wadham for a jockey's and apprentice's license, respectively. Mr A. H. Wrightson wrote stating that he had discovered that he was paying rates on all the club's property, including buildings, although he was only leasing a portion of the property. It was decided to ask Mr Wrightson to agree to a Government valuation of the buildings, etc., on the course with the object of adjusting the matter of paying rates. The resignations of thric membeis were accepted, and four new members were elected. Mr Vallance moved "that no bracelets be offered for races at future meetings." After a brief discussion the motion was allowed to stand oy/*r until after the next meeting, a'sit was top late to alter the programme for the forthcoming meeting. A motion was carried deciding not to issue any complimentary tickets for the race meetings to local people, who are not members of the Club. It was resolved to retain the gates and horse yard for the coming meeting, and to sell the other privileges by auction on Saturday next. Officials for the coming meeting were appointed the same as last year, viz.:—Stewards to watch the racirg, Messrs A. G. Pilmer, R. Buick, and 0. GACcoyer: horses out, Messrs D. CaseSerg,J. Cress and A. J. Welch; horses in, Messrs D. McLachlan, A. Buick and C. H. Smith; totalisator steward, Mr W. Piatt; supervisors for outside gates, Messrs A. Reside and D. McLachlan; paddock stewards, to see that notices are correctly recorded, Messrs C. A. Pownall and W. lorns; assistant clerk of scales, Mr W. Cooper. On the motion of Mr Pilmer, it was resolved to approach the Railway Dapartmentwith reference to having a siding and shelter-shed erected at the entrance to the racecourse, and to inform the Department that the Club is prepared to meet them in the matter of allowing some of the Club's land to be taken for the siding and shed.
