METROPOLITAN HANDICAP. ' By Telegraph—Press [Association. Received October 7, 12.30 a.m. SYDNEY, October 6. Mooltan js favourite for the Metropolitan Handicap at a short price. Apologue, , consequent on his Spring Stakes display, hasfadvanced to within a point of him. Garches has weakened to six points behind Apologue. Camera comes next. Beyond these there is practically nothing in the market. .
MASTERTON CLUB. Play for the championships commenced on Saturday last. The following matches were played:— MEN. First Round. W. P. James beat J. B. Henry—3 up 2 to play, D. Donald beat A. C. Major—2'up. F. H. Elcoate Won from N. D. Bunting by default. C. C. Cox won from A. C. McDonell by default. Second Round. A. B. Lawrence beat.A. Bewley—--7 up 5 to play. The following will meet in the second round, and must play off their matches by next Saturday:— W. P. James plays D. Donald, F. H. Elcoate plays C. C. Cox. W. H. Robieson plays W. H. L. Galwey. LADIES. "' . First Round. Mrs Henry beat Mrs James—4 up 2 to play. Misc E. Robieson beat Miss Holmes —6 up sto play. Miss J. Robieson beat Miss Payton —1 up 3 to play. Miss K. Booth beat Mrs McDonell —4 up 3 to play. In the second round, to be played by next Saturday, Mrs Henry plays Miss E. Robieson, and Miss J. Robieson plays Miss K. Booth. MEDAL COMPETITION.
